Maternal Transport and Preterm Labor Algorithm Pilot Projects

about-image

Maternal Transport and Preterm Labor Algorithm Pilot was a year-long initiative to develop and test new tools to address barriers identified in the 2020 Infant Mortality Needs Assessment Report

This project piloted two tools to decrease infant mortality: a preterm labor assessment tool and prenatal transport tracking form, in rural community hospitals in Maine. The tools were developed by two advisory groups including clinicians from birthing and non-birthing hospitals.

Activities included engagement of hospitals, development of data collection forms, training and education for hospital teams and a quantitative and qualitative evaluation. PQC4ME is currently integrating the tools into quality improvement projects and actively disseminating them throughout the state.

The pilot project was funded by the Betterment Fund, a Maine philanthropy dedicated to improving education, health care and the environment.
